ASCRS Introduces Richard L. Lindstrom Lecture for 2021 Annual Meeting

The 2021 ASCRS Annual Meeting will feature a new named lecture to honor the contributions of Richard L. Lindstrom, MD

Fairfax, Va.- March 10, 2021- The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) is pleased to announce the inaugural Richard L. Lindstrom Lecture and Medal, which will be delivered along with other distinguished lectures at the 2021 ASCRS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Richard L. Lindstrom Lecture and Medal recognizes the contributions Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, has made to ASCRS and ophthalmology over the last 40-plus years. Dr. Lindstrom has influenced all the subspecialties of anterior segment surgery—cataract, cornea, refractive, and glaucoma. He has also fostered and promoted collaboration with industry to advance the medical specialty and patient care.

“ASCRS has served as a guiding beacon in my career since I attended my first meeting at the Los Angeles Century Plaza Hotel in 1978 as a fellow. The honor my colleagues have bestowed on me with a lecture at the ASCRS Annual Meeting is unexpected, humbling, and very precious to me and my family.”

Dr. Lindstrom has served in numerous leadership roles at ASCRS including president, Clinical Committee chair, and Executive Committee representative, and he was instrumental in the creation of the ASCRS Foundation and currently sits on the Foundation Board. In addition, his strategic guidance and advocacy for the close collaboration among ophthalmologists and industry have pushed technological advances further.

Dr. Lindstrom has been honored with ASCRS’ highest awards, having delivered the Binkhorst Lecture in 2003 and the Charles D. Kelman, MD, Innovator’s Lecture in 2011.

“ASCRS has been a blessing to me and my practice for more than 4 decades and has influenced my career more than any other organization,” Dr. Lindstrom said. “The lessons learned and friendships made are priceless.”

The Lindstrom Lecture honoree is an ophthalmologist who has made significant contributions to one of the areas of Dr. Lindstrom’s ophthalmic interests and will be announced prior to the meeting. Preceding the lecture, which will be delivered at the General Session on Sunday, July 25, Dr. Lindstrom will interview the inaugural honoree.

The 2021 ASCRS Annual Meeting will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The main ASCRS programming will take place Saturday, July 24–Tuesday, July 27. Registration and housing for the annual meeting is now open. Visit annualmeeting.ascrs.org for updates and additional information.
