ASCRS FOUNDATION CHANG HUMANITARIAN AWARD UPDATE
Endowed by a generous gift from David & Victoria Chang, the ASCRS Foundation Chang Humanitarian Award
was established to honor and recognize outstanding humanitarian work in the area of cataract blindness. The recipient is recognized at the ASCRS Annual Meeting and a $50,000 prize is made in their honor to a charitable ophthalmology organization of their choice.

patient inquiries resulting from the economic, employment and insurance crisis related to the pandemic.

YOUNG EYE SURGEON INTERNATIONAL SERVICE GRANT UPDATES

The
Young Eye Surgeon International Service Grant was created to inspire young eye surgeons to become involved with global eyecare on a long-term basis. Working with the ASCRS Foundation and its global partners, recipients develop a customized plan which provides
the opportunity to learn the intricacies behind global eyecare efforts and to participate first-hand.
Applications are now open for the 2021 Young Eye Surgeon International Service Grant. The application period is September 21, 2020 - November
16, 2020 (closing at 5pm Eastern), and is open to ASCRS members who are third-year residents, fellows, or members in their first five years of practice.
Given the current global pandemic and the restrictions on travel, the format for this grant cycle has changed. The grant will provide up to $5,000 in funding
for grantees to initiate a global service project in 2021 from home, with the opportunity to travel when it is safe and feasible – most likely by December 2022.

INTERNATIONAL PARTNER SPOTLIGHT - ORBIS INTERNATIONAL
The ASCRS Foundation works closely with Orbis International to facilitate training for next generation of developing world ophthalmologists. Interested in
learning more about Orbis’ innovative programs? Plan to join them for a global virtual symposium titled, "Unlocking the Power of　Simulation: A Next-Generation Solution to Training Ophthalmic
Professionals" for anyone to join from the across the globe interested in incorporating simulation training into their ophthalmic training programs!　
The Program will run October 12–16, 2020. This symposium will bring together leaders in the field of simulation to present on technology,
best practices, guidelines and provide demonstrations. This will apply not only to ophthalmologists, but also ophthalmic nurses and anesthesiologists. We have an excellent line up of nearly 30 speakers and facilitators from academia, industry, and Orbis International
partners.
