SAVE THE DATE FOR 2023 NATIONAL SIGHT WEEK

“We love National Sight Week! The staff donates their time, and we make it a celebratory event. We promote National Sight Week in the community, in the local media, and with our Optometric partners and invite them to join us as well. It really has been a great community builder for our practice.” Carrie Jacobs, COE, OCS, ASCRS Foundation Operation Sight Volunteer

Operation Sight volunteers are essential in treating preventable blindness in their local communities and helping patients return to a life of independence and possibility! The ASCRS Foundation is excited to recognize these incredible efforts that provide sight nationwide during National Sight Week taking place October 9-15, 2022. If you are interested in making an immeasurable impact in your community, read below to discover the best way for your practice to get involved!

• Volunteer a charitable cataract surgery through Operation Sight in 2022! Now is the time to get involved! Operation Sight provides ophthalmologists and practices, the opportunity to provide charitable care to a pre-screened patient in need within their own community. Whether you can provide one charitable cataract surgery or one hundred, your impact will be substantial to the patient and their loved ones. If you have already provided a surgery, view your name on our website, or reply to this email to ensure you are properly recognized!

• Pledge a charitable surgery in the next six months! We will contact you and connect you with eligible patients from your community who are in urgent need of care. In recognition of the dedication you exhibit for your field and community, your name and practice will be added to the Foundation’s 2022 Operation Sight Volunteers here.

ASCRS FOUNDATION OPERATION SIGHT VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR SPOTLIGHT

The ASCRS Foundation is proud to spotlight the 2022 Operation Sight Volunteers of the Year in our newsletter. This month, we shine a light on Reena Patel, MD. Dr. Patel is recognized for her incredible talent, generosity, and passion for providing Operation Sight patients in her community local care! Dr. Patel recently discussed her experiences with the ASCRS Foundation’s Operation Sight program, the mutual benefits it offers surgeons, and how the program supports and inspires care where it is needed most:

“One single surgery creates a ripple effect in a community. To be able to help one single person see the world in a better way is life-changing. Helping someone disadvantaged is my contribution to my community. With better vision, my patient is able to better take care of their family or work which allows their family to do better which allows my community to do better which allows our country to be better.” - Reena Patel, MD
