ASCRS wanted to make you aware of an important decision regarding our San Francisco meeting next year. As you are no doubt aware there is promising progress being made toward development, clinical study, and approval of a vaccine for SARS-CoV-2. When we reflect on the challenges that we faced with the Boston meeting, and knowing many of those same challenges are likely to be present until there is a vaccine inoculation program, we have made the decision to move next year's meeting from April to August.
This decision was thoroughly researched and discussed, and when weighed against the risks of possibly losing another meeting to the coronavirus, we felt we had no other alternative than to move our meeting. This decision provides an additional 4 months of runway for a vaccine to not only be approved, but to be available and administered. The Executive Committee of ASCRS believes this gives us the best opportunity for a successful meeting. The new dates for ASCRS 2021 will be August 13th – 17th.
This will also change our typical meeting rhythm, but we will keep as many of our traditional dates for abstract submission, exhibit contract, and eventually registration as close to our historical dates as possible. By doing so it will ensure we keep the dates associated with our San Francisco meeting separated from our Washington D.C. meeting which is set for April of ’22.
We have also made the decision to cancel our 2020 Summer Symposium in Austin, Texas set for August. Again, the restrictions and challenges resulting from SARS-CoV-2 have prompted the need to cancel this live event.
Thank you for your support of ASCRS. We look forward to welcoming you to San Francisco next August.
